Install Guide PetSafe® Plastic Pet Door
A few things to keep in mind:

Step 1
Materials
Please have the following contents from the box ready prior to installation:

Note: The pet door can be installed in most doors and walls. However, additional tools and materials, such as wood framing, may be needed.
Door placement
Before installation, choose where to place the pet door. The pet door can be placed in the left, center or right side of the door.

Note: If there are door panels in the door, align and install your pet door with a panel for easiest installation.
Pet door location
It is important to measure the placement on the door specifically for your pet’s height. If there are multiple pets, measure to the largest pet.
Mark the shoulder height of your pet on door image
Mark the shoulder height of your pet with a pencil on the chosen door side.
Use level to draw vertical line image
Use a level to draw a vertical line through the shoulder height line.
Door prep
Remove door from hinges with flat head screwdriver and hammer image
Remove the door from hinges using the flat-head screwdriver and hammer.
Place door on raised surface image
Place the door on a raised level surface, such as a pair of saw horses.
Template
Use the cutting template to precisely mark where the pet door will go.
Cut templete to correct size of pet door image
Cut the template to the correct size according to the pet door.
Match drawn lines from door to templete image
Match the marked lines on the door with the shoulder and center lines on the template.
Make sure template is at least 3 inch from side and bottom of door image
Make sure the template is at least three inches from the bottom and sides of the door.
Tape temple and draw outline image
Tape the template to the door and trace the template completely. Make sure to trace under the tape to connect the corners.
Note: Remove the template and any excess tape before cutting.
Step 2
Cut pet door opening
Important: Follow all safety instructions when using power tools. Be sure to always wear safety glasses.
Drill holes on inside corners of drawn template image
Drill 3/8 inch holes on the inside corners of the drawn template. Hold the drill steady and straight.
Use jigsaw to cut out piece image
Place the jigsaw blade into a corner hole, making sure the blade goes entirely through the door, and cut along the drawn template lines. Continue until an opening is made.
Check fit of cut out with frame image
Place the interior frame into the opening to check the fit. Place the exterior frame under the door while holding the interior frame with one hand.
Important: If the frames do not overlap, the opening may need to be recut before proceeding.
Mark door through holes on pet door frame image
With only the interior frame in the opening, mark the door through the screw holes along the side of the frame.
Remove frame and drill holes through door image
Remove the interior frame and drill ¼ inch holes through the door.
Step 3
Insert your pet door
Fit the tunnel pieces
Measure thickness of door image
Measure the thickness of your door and add 1 inch.
Width of door + 1 inch= X
Cut grooved edges image
Cut along the grooved edge closest to the total measurement on each tunnel piece.
Snap each core cover into track of exterior frame image
Snap the bottom of each core cover into the track on the exterior frame of the door.
For extra support add duct tape to each corner image
Apply duct tape to all four corners for extra support.
Place the pet door

Two people can make this process faster and easier.
Place interior frame with flap into cut out image
Place the interior frame with the flap into the cutout on top of the door.
Place exterior frame into the cut out from below door image
Place the exterior frame into the cutout from beneath the door. Ensure the exterior frame fits into the interior frame. Hold both frames in place for the rest of the steps.
Install screws image
Insert the nylon screws into the holes in the frame. Make sure the screws go through both frames.

Note: Caulk around the exterior frame and inside where the frames meet for extra weatherproofing.
Twist hex nuts from bottom of each screw image
Twist the hex nuts on the bottom of each screw. Pull the screw up until the hex nut is flush with the exterior frame.
Tighten screws with screwdriver image
Tighten the screws until a small part of each screw remains on the top of the frame.
Do not over tighten image
Tighten each screw evenly throughout the frame until snug. Overtightening the screws can cause the screw to strip or can bow the frame of the pet door.
Cut excess screw with wire cutters image
Cut off the excess screw using wire cutters. A metal file can be used to smooth any rough edges of the screw.
